What if agape love was the motivation behind our every action, how would our society be? What if it was the basis of all our motives, how would our relationships and lives generally be? Hiw would the home and office environment be? How would our schools be? Would our actions be informed by selfish motives? Would we take advantage of others? Corinth reminds me of Kenya. The Corinthians did not trust much in God’s ability to sort them out. They were active people who wanted to do things their own way. They were very energetic. They were visual and believed in fun, the here and now; watu wakujipanga. Yet God wants to guide us. His idea and our idea of doing things is different. We want to have our way. The Christian faith is a walk of trust. Hence their struggle to even understand the communion issue. May the Lord help us see the folly of our ways.

Human beings are special in God’s eyes, hence the liberty to choose and reason. This however complicates our lives a little. May we therefore learn to seek God’s guidance before we act as far as it is practical to do so. 1 Corinthians 10: 23-33.
