Silent Stones

Our children may be like the Israelites who were dependent on signs and wonders to believe in God. Jesus gives an appropriate reply to them in John 6:28-29. As parents, let us be comforted by the words in John 6:37 and Proverbs 22:6. God loves our children and doesn’t want any of them to be destroyed. We should also have faith in the power of the Word of God we have taught them. May the Lord help us to keep teaching them the truth.

Just like Jesus says in John 6:26-27, our kids mainly depend on us for subsistence. It is our responsibility to point them to Him that giveth eternal life.

We may speak to our children about God the way we know how to, and it may work or fail. In case it doesn’t work, meditate on John6:22-45. Look at their lives and see what God is doing and join Him to do that work. May He show us where to plug in and work with Him. May we also be guided of Him to see what our kids really need and may we trust Him to show us how to respond.

Like we read yesterday in Acts 2, the Lord has expectations of both children and adults. He promises to provide help through the Holy Spirit because of the nature of the assignment. In Deuteronomy 11:19 and Joel 1:3, God tells Israel to instruct the children continuously in the ways of the Lord. Let’s keep doing this.

Let’s contend for the faith of our children. Let us not give up crying out to God for them and talking to them about the importance of a closer walk with God. For the Lord is seeking young people to walk with. Youth that have dedicated their lives to God will also bring hope to a world ravaged by so many strange teachings and practices that go against the Christian faith. The Lord will help us in this. Acts 2:17-21.

Since the Jews refused to believe the message Jesus brought, He focused on those who were willing to hear and accept it. These were beneficiaries of a close walk with Him and He revealed things to them that the average person never got to see. Matthew 17:1-13.

Despite many signs and messages, the Jews did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah they had been waiting for. Their minds were fixed on a certain type of Saviour and therefore He did not match that expectation John 10:1-20. Their stubbornness stood in the way of their salvation.

Our stubbornness can affect our vision and outlook on life. If God appeared to you and provoked your thinking, would you recognize Him? Would you be convinced by Him or would you remain fixated on your way of life? Gideon almost missed a great opportunity due to fear and stubbornness that had shaped his perception of who he was. Judges 6:11-18.

In Deuteronomy 1:1-8, Moses spoke to the Israelites about their 40 year journey to the promised land and God’s purpose for them. I’m sure they knew what he was saying, but he emphasized it. The 50 year journey could have been covered in 11 days, but the stubbornness of the people caused the delay. They needed to experience God more and He needed to break their obstinacy. Is there a delay in your life that is being caused by your stubbornness?
