Despite the rebellion of His people, God was still merciful enough to keep His promise to them concerning a few things like settling them back on the land He had promised them. That is the God we serve: Ezekiel 20: 40-42. 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us how to attract His mercy. Let us pray for ourselves and our nation.

On the other hand even as we trust God for an impactful 2020 and beyond, we need to be careful not err the way the Isaraelites erred in the past by rejecting God and doing detestable things He had warned them not to do. They otrightly went against the decrees He had given them and angered Him. He poured out His wrath upon them and they were conquered and taken captive. Where are we in regard to our relationship with God? Are we rebelling against Him? Has He warned us? Have we listened and turned back to Him? Ezekiel 20:8-39

I would like to suggest that we have an attitude of gratitude and appreciation to God for His mercy in 2020 and beyond. Titus 3:1-11 gives some critical insights into how to do this, so that we may live effective lives.

I find the advice in Proverbs 23:4-5 very interesting. Many of us work so hard to create wealth so that we may provide for our families. Solomon thinks this is not a good idea because of the fleeting nature of riches. I bet what he had in mind was to advise us to seek the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. This is reiterated by a few scribes in the bible and also by Jesus Himself in Matthew 6:19ff. Food for thought as we strategise for 2020 and the future.

One of the predominant ills in Kenyan society today is land grabbing, especially from the needy. Proverbs 23:10-11 warns sternly against that. It may sound like a farfetched idea, but the temptation is real. May the Defender of the poor help us not to entertain such thoughts. May we allow Him to direct our hearts to abide with His divine plan for us.

What is the motive behind the business unusual that you so desire? Bill Gates sought to provide a solution in computing. His primary motivation was not to make money. James 4:3 is very clear on why many wishes are not granted. May we seek to help others and may we discern what the will of God concerning us is, even as we trust God to do amazing things in our time.

To what extent can it be business unusual with Jehovah? He made a nation out of Abraham and Sarah who started getting children at almost 100 years of age according to His promise in Genesis 12:2. He delivered His children Israel out of bondage after 400 years and did amazing miracles like parting the Red Sea in the process; see Exodus. He rescued His people countless times from dire situations as they made their way to the promised land and once they settled there. After they were banished from there on and off for many years, He resettled them there against all odds and has made them thrive to date despite them living in what would otherwise be very tricky circumstances. So, what is the level of your walk with Him and consequently, what are your expectations of Him?

And as we wait upon God to do the extraordinary things, we will not just be sitting pretty and waiting. We should follow the advice given in Hebrews 12:1-3. Each of us has a race to run. How we run it is important. Let us endeavour to keep doing what God placed us on earth for, even as we trust in Him to turn circumstances around.

Business unusual means that we should have an open mind to accept and understand the things God will do. They will be extraordinary, but if we are prepared, we will adjust accordingly and allow Him to have His way. Jeremiah 33:3.

I have a feeling that from now going forward, it will be business unusual for many of us. We have been used to seeing God work in a particular way. That may change. This calls for us to trust Him. What we need to ensure is that we are walking in divine purpose. Hebrews 11:1.
