If we are to aspire to be part of those used by God to establish His kingdom here, we ought to consider a few things. Are there traditions that we hold on to more dearly than the fear of the Lord, that do not honour God, that contradict His word? Mark 7:5-13.

The work of God on the hearts of men (the establishment of God’s kingdom) is continuous. The extent of its impact depends on the willingness of man. As we walk this journey of life, let’s allow the fear of God to guide us. As we do that, we shall keep growing and His kingdom will grow & be dominant. Psalm 103.

In Luke 17:20-21, the Pharisees asked when the kingdom of God would come, not knowing that it had already arrived. It begins with the work of the Holy Spirit in people’s lives and in relationships. Let us resist looking at institutions or programmes for evidence of the progress of God’s kingdom. Instead, we should look at what God is doing in people’s hearts.

The establishment of God’s kingdom is a process that probably started with the coming of the Messiah over 2000 years ago- Matthew 2:1-2. It is mentioned severally in the old testament because of its significance-Micah 5:2. It demonstrates God’s love through what Christ and His disciples did while one earth-Luke 10:17-24. It will culminate in His rulership when He returns Revelation 11:15-19. May we allow Him to use us to have the impact He desires towards its establishment.

The United Kingdom conquered a large part of the world and left its influence even after those nations gained independence. We still drive on the left, eat with a fork & knife, have 1 or 2 English names, use English as an official language, etc. We can’t refute that we were once a British colony. The kingdom of God is more powerful than the British Empire. How much more influence should it wield over the earth? Our lives should be full of evidence of His reign. Hebrews 12:28-29 & Revelation 11:15-19.

There is a sense of expectation, waiting for the Lord to show Himself strong. May we not be disappointed like Isaiah 26:18 says. Our desire should be to establish God’s kingdom wherever He places us. How I pray that we shall experience what verse 19 says. May the Lord have mercy on us.

When we forget to appreciate the Lord for His love for us and the lengths He can go to to prove it, may we get an aha moment like Job, so that we realise what a mighty God we serve. Job 42:1-6.

Ephesians 2:10 should remind us what we were created to do, lest we doubt. Telling others of the love of God that caused us to be reconciled to Him through the finished work of the cross and living that out are things expected of us too. 2 Corinthians 5:11-21.

Even as we fellowship and share with each other, it would be good to have similar perspectives on some basic but important issues as Christians. Having the right doctrine will help us have the same focus and avoid unnecessary quarrels. A spirit of contentment will also motivate us to focus on kingdom matters. 1 Timothy 6:3-10.

One thing we underestimate is fellowship. It is not easy to host: it takes time, money and a lot of effort. But the result is joy, contentment, ministry to each other, holding each other accountable and stress relief. 2 John and 3 John end in the same way. John desires to meet the brethren face to face and fellowship. In 3 John:5 he commends the believers for hosting strangers. Let’s share our lives with others.
