Silent Stones

Even Jesus expressed the need to be in His Father’s presence in Luke 2:41-49, especially vs 49. How about us? How much more should we desire His glory? It doesn’t have to only happen in the building we call church or temple. We are so fortunate to have the Allmighty God, who is not limited by space or time.

I would like to link being under the cover of God’s glory with what Christ said in John 14:26. I’m convinced that one of the benefits of having this glory is to get direction. This is why Moses was very clear about the importance of having God’s presence in Exodus 33:15. May we desire God’s presence like Moses did. May the Lord keep showing us what we need to do for His presence to abide with us.

In Exodus 33:19, the Lord enumerates the other benefits of His glory. May we be beneficiaries of the same.

Moses desired the glory of God for distinction according to Exodus 33:15-17. Jesus remarked about the importance of presence of the Holy Spirit in John 14:15-17 and vs 26. Let us desire God’s presence for these reasons too.

In her song “Uwepo Wako”, Mercylinah sings about God’s different characteristics for the different seasons of life we go through. She then stresses the importance of knowing Him more. This reminds me of the importance of seeking Him in order to know Him and His ways. This will help us navigate through this journey of life and will also enable us to be what He wants us to be in all situations. https://youtu.be/-aAPcdPQpWo

One of the results of seeking to know God and His ways is finding favour with Him. Another is that He walks with those who seek Him and gives them rest. May we make that a priority in our lives. It will give us proper perspective for all other things Exodus 33:13-14.

God is gracious. After His children had sinned terribly in Exodus 32, He still related closely with Moses – Exodus 33:11. He also assured Moses that He would be with them – verse 14. But Moses still wanted to experience God more and asked Him for close guidance and instruction in verse 13. He didn’t ask for material possessions. He wanted to know God and His ways.

Paul’s persecution didn’t stop him from preaching the gospel and fulfilling his purpose. From his near lynching and arrest in Acts 21:30 to his appearance before the Sanhedrin in chapter 23, Felix in chapter 24, Festus and Agrippa in 25, he used every opportunity to do what his divine purpose dictated. How are we under tribulation? Do we withdraw or do we still use our gifts to glorify God and share about His goodness?

Let us not forget to serve others even during our season of judgement. God has placed gifts in us that are for the benefit of those we encounter or those around us according to 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. I’m seeing loved ones going through some difficult times, but life must still continue. It doesn’t stop. As we serve, we bless others and receive so much joy and satisfaction. Our minds also think about other things apart from our pressing circumstances.

Enduring judgment or punishment can be equated with bearing the yoke in Lamentations 3:27-33. One’s attitude during this experience is key: silent reflection on what Gid wants, repentant humility, self-control in the face of adversity and confident patience, depending on God to teach us lessons He wants us to learn. What do you do during such seasons of life?
