Even in the darkest moments it pays to be hopeful. The problems that afflict us can lead to dejection and self pity. In Lamentations 3:1-24, Jeremiah laments about the affliction visited upon him and Israel. But he chooses to remember that God is loving and compassionate. Be encouraged.

The words of Nahum 1:7 are truly an encouragement to those who trust in God, especially considering the circumstances that prevailed when they were spoken. Judgment was being passed against Nineveh due to its rebellion. But the prophet still encouraged the remnant and promised them refuge and hope. Where do you stand in the midst of all that’s going on around you? Do you trust Him?

Just like Jesus said in Matthew 24:1-13, we shall experience many challenges ranging from wars and natural calamities to people deserting the faith and harming each other due to the absence of love for one another. We are seeing it all around us. But let’s follow the advice given in verse 13. Trust God and stand firm for what He teaches.

As the Lord leads you, be an encourager to those who are going through challenges, especially those who are going through what you have experienced. That is one of the reasons why we undergo trials. Isaiah 50:4.

We have all experienced great challenges at one time or other. Many of us can identify with the words of Psalm 124. Despite the difficulties, we should thank God for seeing us through them, for His hand of protection upon us, for His provision and mercy. We shall go through challenges in the future. May we learn to yield to His will and may we have the privilege of seeing Him work to help us in those circumstances.

Being a loving Father, God still gives opportunity for the wayward child to repent and be restored in his relationship with Him. He even facilitates the restoration just like a good parent would. May we learn to discern and understand when we are going astray and have the humility to turn back to Him. Proverbs 2:9-11.

When a child is rebellious, the parents spend a lot of time and effort trying to steer him/her back to the path of reason. That sometimes takes away precious time that would have been used to bless and equip the child for life. The same happens to us and God. He gives wisdom, victory and protection to the diligent. May we purpose to be beneficiaries of these precious gifts Provervs 2:1-22.

We may be going through a very rough patch at the moment and we may want to curse the day we were born, like Job did in Job 3:1-8. Let’s not forget that we serve a God who knows the end from the beginning and is aware of our circumstances. Hang in there. Don’t despair. Job ended up realizing that God is always in control like he affirms in Job 42:1-6. This season too shall pass. If you entrust your life to to this great God, remember He sees the bigger picture clearly because He painted it. Lets keep asking Him to show it to us so that we may understand the scheme of things better. He also avails His grace during difficult times. We must also endeavour to learn our lessons while in the valley of difficulties.

Hebrews 12:18-24 reminds us of the sort of God who calls us to follow Him. We have come a long way from the days of Moses. Even when we experience hardship, this loving God is there for us. We can trust Him to help us in everything, even in the area of finances.

Some of those stranded with money in the house made it from government tenders and were paid in cash. Ponder this on wealth: 1. God can give you the power to create it – Deuteronomy 8:18 2. Honour the Lord with your wealth – Proverbs 3:9 3. Whoever loves it is never satisfied – Ecclesiastes 5:10 4. It is worthless in the day of wrath – Proverbs 11:4
