Silent Stones

We are looking for fulfilment through security, significance, variety, acceptance, growth, etc. May our definition of fulfilment be based on the understanding that we have represented God well and been vessels He has used and still can use to positively impact others for His glory. May our hopes not be pegged on an object. May we find joy in service and be content. 1 Timothy 6:6.

In Matthew 21:18-22, Jesus taught the disciples the importance of growth. It is natural for us to desire growth, to want to improve. The Lord also expects us to be fruitful. I’m sure the disciples were challenged by what He said and what happened to the fig tree. His assurance in verse 22 must have motivated them and increased their faith. Let us not pursue growth outside His will for us. If our agenda excludes Him, we may end up learning some painful lessons.

We desire significance and love. We want to feel important and appreciated. Is that why we cause chaos when we get some money and fame? May we always realise that the Lord loves and appreciates us. That’s why He created us and gave us the gifts and qualities we have. He allows us to grow for His glory, not for our own glory. We are because He is. Luke 15:11-32.

As human beings, we desire variety and dynamism. We want our life to be interesting. Some of us get bored very fast and are used to a fast paced life. May we learn to trust the Creator more. He made us and knows us. He knows what’s best for you and me. Like the sail depends on the wind, may we depend on Him to propel us into His will for us. Psalm 135:1-21.

We desire security as human beings. We want to feel that we are safe, that our property and loved ones are secure. May we not forget that it is God who keeps us secure. We may put measures in place, but he is our safe refuge. Psalm 16:5.

You may seem like an unlikely candidate for impact and transformation because of your weaknesses. But persist and wait upon God. Willingness and availability are key ingredients the Lord looks for. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.

Let us emulate some of the things Jesus did even as we purpose to do His will. May we also mentor others to follow Him. This requires us to be intentional. What’s keeping us so preoccupied that we can’t do God’s will? 2 Timothy 2:2.

Even as we pray, may the Lord guide us on what to do in different circumstances. May we have the grace to take a step of faith even as we trust Him. May He be merciful towards us and cause us to see the fruit of our labour. Ecclesiastes 11:1-6.

We sometimes know what needs to be done and we are equipped to do it, but we hesitate out of doubt or fear. May we not miss an opportunity to do God’s will, and if we do, may we repent and do it. Fear is not our portion, neither is procrastination. Acts 11:11-18.

What gift has God placed in you? Have you identified it? Are you using it for His glory? If not, what is stopping you from using it? Please do an audit and see what it is and whether you are utilising it effectively. If not, ask God for help. Romans 12:4-8.
