The thief is driven by greed, the adulterer by lust, the coup plotter by greed for power, etc. If we check our appetites, we will be saved from trouble. In 1 Samuel 24, David had a chance to kill Saul and become king. He relented and trusted God to make it happen without him sinning by killing the Lord’s anointed. He eventually got his heart’s desire by becoming king after Saul was killed in battle.

According to the Apostle John, the root cause of darkness in society is the cravings people have, the lust of the eyes and pride. May we be conscious of these traps on a day to day basis. 1 John 2:15-16.

Jesus got to Bethany and despite knowing He would raise Lazarus from the dead, He was moved to tears by the sorrow of the family and friends gathered there. He understamds our pain and suffering. He knows what we go through, but He is still God. Lazarus’ situation was in His will and plan. John 11:17-37.

Mary and Martha must have been distressed waiting for Jesus and watching as their brother’s condition deteriorated and as he eventually passed away. But the Lord was still faithful. He knew what He would do. His disciples were more concerned about His safety. John 11:8-16.

Abimelech’s uncontrollable zest for conquest led him to employ poor military strategy that led to his death. Could it also be that he was not a skilled warrior? May we not be blinded by a our desires to a point of self destruction. Judges 9:50-53 & 2 Samuel 11:21.

Concerning the fate of Abimelech, your guess is as good as mine. He governed Israel for 3 years and was then killed when a millstone was dropped on his head. This ruthless and power hungry man had his way but only for a short while. May we be careful to follow God’s will. Judges 9:22-57.
