And as we purpose to serve those God has placed around us, may we tap into His abundant grace so as to be effective. Like Psalm 49 says, let us not fear challenges nor adore those who put their trust in material wealth. May we put our trust in God alone and draw encouragement from His promises. Psalm 49:1-20.

We all have a sphere of influence, a space the Lord has allowed us to have impact. May we behave responsibly in that space, in accordance with God’s will for the glory of God and the benefit of those whose lives we are meant to impact. And as we serve, may we not be anxious about our service nor about our needs. Isaiah 32:1-8.

What does the new week have in store for me? I’m not sure. How will things work out? I don’t know. But one thing I do know is that the Almighty God is capable of seeing me through whatever lies ahead of me if I surrender to Him. He is the creator of His will for me, so I will purpose to walk in it. Isaiah 32:1-8.

I’m not in any way under playing the challenges some of us are going through. My humble task is to encourage us not to give up, like Paul encouraged the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 & 16-18. May the Holy Spirit remind us that were it not for Him, we wouldn’t be alive today. May we stop grumbling and fix our eyes on Him who can help us through the difficulties we are experiencing.

Acknowledging that God is mighty and gracious and believing that He is loving and caring is easier when we are humble enough to admit it and when we carefully examine our lives and the lives of those around us to see how He relates to others and what He does in people’s lives. 1 Peter 5:5-6.

For Judah it was the marrying of foreign women that angered God. They caused His children to worship other gods. For the body of Christ today, there is also grave sin that affects our lives. But we have the privilege of the sacrifice of Jesus. How fortunate we are to have such a merciful God. May we not take it for granted. May we purpose to have a relationship with Him and walk with Him. 1 Peter 5:10.

After being conquered and a good portion of the population being carried into exile due to rebellion, the Lord allowed the people of Judah to return to their land. The prayer of confession led by Ezra and his efforts to point the people back to God shows that the Lord accomplished His purpose. Nothing is too difficult for God. 1 Peter 5:10.

Ezra’s commitment to the Lord and his role as a servant of God wasn’t only driven by a sense of duty. He must have loved the Lord and consequently the people he was serving. His return to Jerusalem, his opposition to intermarriage in chapter 9, his passionate prayer in chapter 10 that led to the people’s confession, etc all show a lot of love and compassion. May the Lord help us to be filled with His love and the requisite passion and commitment for what He has called us to do.

Ezra was committed to living for God and it all started with his devotion to reading the word of God as recorded in Ezra 7:10 (and continues to chapter 10). He led a group of 200 Jews returning to Judah from exile in Babylon. He then allowed the Lord to work through Him to point the people back to God. I will try to borrow from this example of taking God’s word more seriously to help me relate better with the Lord. What about you? What do you purpose to do as we emerge from the pandemic.

And as the Lord helps you to launch out into your new season, do not forget to thank and appreciate Him for His favour and sustenance. He holds us up even when we think we are strong and capable and especially when we have no strength to carry on. Ezra 7:27-28.
