Silent Stones

To intelligent human beings the knowledge of God may appear too basic, boring, old fashioned or outdated. It sounds alien in the 21st century. I bet it also did as Paul wrote to the Romans. The scenario described in Romans 1:24-32 is familiar. I’m sure we see it around us in the media, in our families, schools and local communities. Are we willing to do anything about it 🤔? Or is it just what it is? Are we perpetrators of the same or are we victims? Have we sunk that low ourselves?

Being a child of God requires a certain amount of integrity or righteousness. Romans 1:28-32 depicts a society that was so wicked, that wickedness had become acceptable. This happened because the people had chosen to ignore the knowledge of God.

To the casual observer, the fate of the 3 Jewish men thrown into the furnace by Nebuchadnezzar was sealed (Daniel 3:19-27). But for Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego, the reality was different because God was with them. May our walk with the Lord cause Him to be seen no matter what situation we find ourselves in.

I wouldn’t be where I am today were it not for the Holy Spirit. He directs, empowers, gives insight, comforts, intercedes; the list is endless. The more we make room for Him, and the more He chooses to operate in our lives, the more we see manifestations of His presence. John 14:26.

We need favour on this journey of life, favour with God and man/woman. We need God or someone to intervene on our behalf in different situations. Jesus and the Jewish elders did it for the Roman centurion in Luke 7:1-10. May we always find favour when we need it.

Wisdom is important to help us manoeuvre the landscape of life. It is especially so for leaders and anyone who has to make decisions. May we desire supernatural wisdom so that we glorify God. James 1:5; 3:13-18.

As a leader know your flock. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Fear, greed and preoccupation with self are some of the greatest vices that cause people to deviate from divine purpose. Guide your flock accordingly. 1 Peter 5:8-12.

As a leader you will encounter challenges. Some of your flock may flee when that happens. Maintain your focus on God so that you are able to remain steadfast in your faith and still minister to the flock, even as you allow the Lord to minister to you. 1 Peter 5:8-11.

Those of us in leadership at whatever level may be undergoing persecution or challenges. That doesn’t mean we have the leeway to do evil. We still must shepherd the sheep God has placed in our folds responsibly. He avails His grace for us to be good shepherds. Humility is key in our role as leaders. 1 Peter 5:1-7

The actions of the leadership at any level will affect the lives of others, even in our homes. May we then, at whatever level, endeavour to embrace justice and fairness, treating others with love and respect. May we also remember that when we lead, we get an opportunity to serve. 1 Peter 5:1-4.
