Silent Stones

Paul wrote to the church in Laodecia and to us today to encourage believers to focus on the gospel of Christ. There were many distractions then as there are today. But he reminded them and we should also be reminded that to remain hopeful in God, we need to be deeply rooted in Him. Without that any person would be tossed back and forth by the challenges of life. Colossians 2:1-7.

Whether “our” candidate has won or not, may we be grateful that the Lord has allowed us to get this far. May we also remember that “mtu wetu” is not God. He is a vessel that God can use. So being rooted in Chtist should be our primary focus. Let us be grateful for our relationship with Jehovah and may we always strive to remain rooted in Him. Colossians 2:6-7.

There may still be hope despite the gloom, light beyond the darkness, a sanctuary for the afflicted and freedom for the captives, not because of us, but because of Jehovah. Isaiah 48:1-11.

Can we be a good reference point for those seeking truth in these confusing times as Paul points out in 2 Timothy 3:10-15? And the basis of our conviction should emanate from God’s word. And we should also point those looking up to us to the scriptures (vs 14-15).

2 Timothy 4:1-5 reminds me of the election season and other seasons we experience and what transpires in the run up towards them. Scripture and teachings can easily be manipulated to pass a certain message. To see through such schemes, we need to be meditating on scripture continuously. Let’s also heed 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

2 Timothy 3:6-9 tells us what happens to those people whose main focus is pleasure. We all have a choice to make. Hopefully, we will make the right choice. Pleasure should not be our primary focus.

02 Aug 2022

Over emphasis on pleasure causes our attention to shift from God to the objects of pleasure. We begin to idolise them. The end result is a society that is devoid of the fear of God. Anything goes. Material things take centre stage. People then do anything for pleasure. Then 2 Timothy 3:1-5 begins to make sense.

Joy is an important part of our lives. We enjoy deriving pleasure from various things, be it a hobby, a relationship, etc. This is part of life. But living for pleasure is something the bible warns against. Gratifying our desires should not be the primary focus of our existence. 1 Timothy 5:6.

Jesus mentored the disciples, interacted with His betrayer Judas, chased business people angrily from the temple, showed compassion and healed the sick. He dealt differently with different people. May we get wisdom on how to deal with other people. Philippians 2:3-8.

How do we relate with others? Do we respect and honour them? Do we surrender our opinions and feelings and obey the Lord concerning each relationship? Philippians 2:3-8 challenged me concerning this.
