Silent Stones

Corinth reminds me of Kenya. The Corinthians did not trust much in God’s ability to sort them out. They were active people who wanted to do things their own way. They were very energetic. They were visual and believed in fun, the here and now; watu wakujipanga. Yet God wants to guide us. His idea and our idea of doing things is different. We want to have our way. The Christian faith is a walk of trust. Hence their struggle to even understand the communion issue. May the Lord help us see the folly of our ways.

Holy communion is a practice of gratitude and faith. Gratitude for the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross and faith that He will come again. Our trust in God makes us practise it regularly. 1 Corinthians 11:23-34.

In order to depend on God’s guidance fully, we need to trust in Him fully. Being intelligent human beings, we tend to have our own ideas and we may be set in our ways. But let us trust that God is able. And when we trust Him, we experience peace. Isaiah 26:3.

Human beings are special in God’s eyes, hence the liberty to choose and reason. This however complicates our lives a little. May we therefore learn to seek God’s guidance before we act as far as it is practical to do so. 1 Corinthians 10: 23-33.

In 1 Corinthians 10:1-13, Paul reminds the people tomlearn from the mistakes of their forefathers and the consequences they experienced. As we impact our spheres of influence, may History serve as a good teacher. May it encourage us to work towards the prize set before us.

By virtue of the knowledge, wisdom and experience God has given us or allowed us to acquire, we have a responsibility to be light and salt on His behalf. It is expected of us to be His ambassadors wherever He places us to point others to Him. Let us not forget to watch ourselves as we do His work, lest we miss the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:22-27.

We are not isolated from the world neither are we insulated from it. Our actions affect others and theirs affect us. We can’t always be sure to what extent this happens, but I pray that we will continually depend on God for guidance. 1 Corinthians 8:1-13.

Whether single or married, let us do our best to serve the Lord wherever we are. In our work and in our play, in our relationships and in our service to humanity, may we serve God. 1 Corinthians 7, Psalm 40:6-8.

If God is for us, who can be against us? We are never alone. May we recount the times He has rescued us and rejoice, the times He has granted us health or provided for us. May we have a proper perspective of Jehovah. Psalm 40:1-5.

There are challenges that human beings struggle with, especially on our own. That is where accountability partners come in handy. They can help us navigate such issues of life. The Christian life accords us freedom which if not checked can lead to sin and destruction. The temple of the love goddess Aphrodite was in Corinth, and it employed more than 1,000 temple prostitutes. Sexual purity was a big problem in Corinth. May we learn from their mistakes and may we be open to one another even before we sin to avoid hurting ourselves and others. 1 Corinthians 6:12-20.
